“The Duomo” Is a Stunning Visual Feat. Watch the Trailer
The story of Filippo Brunelleschi, who reimagined architecture, designing the magnificent dome for the Florence Cathedral, a symbol of the Renaissance spirit that still inspires humanity 500 years on.
The cathedral - named in honor of Santa Maria del Fiore — is a vast Gothic structure built on the site of the 7th century church of Santa Reparata, the remains of which can be seen in the crypt.
The Florence Cathedral’s construction began at the end of the 13th century by Arnolfo di Cambio. The crowning dome, which dominates the exterior, was added in the 15th century. It was designed and built by Filippo Brunelleschi. Not many people dared to even think of trying to add the dome to the stunning cathedral. Yet Bruneleschi believed that God would give him enough wisdom and strength to complete this one of the most complex architectural tasks humanity has ever undertaken.
